WRECCLESHAM’S I’Anson Division Five match wouldn’t have gone ahead last Saturday even if the weather had been fine because travellers made an illegal incursion onto the recreation ground the night before. Some 30 caravans and vehicles caused damage to the outfield.

In the past week, travellers have also gained entry to the recreation grounds at Weybourne and Heath End.

At the Monkton Lane home of Farnham Rugby Club, cars were parked behind the gates to prevent entry.

The travellers left Wrecclesham late on Tuesday and the cricket club were inspecting the damage.

Wrecclesham are due to host Tongham II this Saturday, but the club may well have to find an alternative ground.
