FARNHAM athlete Louise Small notched up her third consecutive victory in the senior women’s race at the Hampshire Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Injury had prevented her running in last month’s European Championships where she would have been a contender for a high placing since she was third European at the World Championships in March.
At Fairthorne Manor, near Botley, Small (31mins 34secs) crossed the line nearly a minute ahead of the runner-up, Southampton’s Laura Brenton (32-25), and led Aldershot, Farnham & District to the team title.
Lauren Hall, the inter-services champion, came third, Carolyne Baxter fifth and Sofie Kent 24th.
AFD were the only club to finish a team in the U20 women’s event as Maisie Grice took the individual silver medal ahead of Lizzie Squibbs, who claimed bronze, and Tilly Horton in fourth.
Aldershot & Farnham also had the individual silver and bronze medallists in their winning U15 girls’ team – Ruby Horton and Lydia Carter. Alice Garner, fifth, and Charlie Parsons, sixth, were the other scorers.
Runner-up Woody Jerome led Ryan Martin, seventh, Oliver Harris, 13th, and Elliot Allin, 15th, to victory in the U15 boys’ race.
The corresponding Surrey Championships took place in Denbies Vineyard, Dorking on Sunday and AFD had a one-two finish in the men’s senior race, George Gathercole (39mins 18secs) winning from team-mate Macgregor Cox (39-24).
AFD secured two team titles. The U17 men achieved a perfect score, thanks to the efforts of Luke van Oudtshoorn, gold, Max Heyden, silver, and Marcus Shantry, bronze.
Rudi Morrell and Ethan Scott, the silver and bronze medallists, were joined by Ollie Pickup, ninth, and Leon Lafreniere, tenth, for AFD’s victory in the U13 boys’ competition.
The club had the individual winner in the U15 boys’ race, Will Barnicoat coming home well ahead in 13mins 46 secs.
