FOLLOWING their AGM last year, Farnham Sports Council hosted, in conjunction with Active Surrey and the Waverley Leisure team, a forum for local sports clubs.

One element of the ‘Club Conversations’ session was the feedback from a survey of local clubs which tried to identify the strongest and weakest facets of running a sports club.

The same survey was conducted in other parts of Surrey and Sussex through the county sports partnership organisations, Active Surrey and Active Sussex.

Farnham’s sports clubs scored highly compared to many other areas, which came as no surprise to David Gill, chairman of Farnham Sports Council.

“We knew we had some excellent and well-run community sports clubs in our patch, and the survey results confirm this,” he said. “However, the two areas our clubs suggested we could improve were in respect of using modern social media and marketing, as well as engaging with partners or key stakeholders in sport. So, we’ve done something about it.”

For ‘Club Conversations Part 2’, with the support of Active Surrey, a specialist in social media and marketing has been acquired for the benefit of all sports clubs in the town.

There will also be a sports officer representative from Waverley Borough Council and Active Surrey on hand to advise clubs on how they can engage more actively with them and other relevant organisations.

David Gill added: “All clubs in the Farnham area are encouraged to attend and improve their knowledge and share ideas. These sessions are free and every sports club in the town is invited and welcome to turn up on the evening.

The ‘Club Conversations’ session will be held at Farnham Rugby Club this Monday, November 14 (8.15-9.30pm).
