BASED just on home matches, Aldershot Town are top of the National League. The Shots have won 10 of their 14 home fixtures, drawing one and losing three, giving them 31 points and top place, on goal difference, from Tranmere Rovers, with current leaders Lincoln City one point back.

Fortress EBB? Not quite, with Aldershot suffering an embarrassing first-round defeat to East Thurrock United in the FA Trophy last month. The National League South side won the replay 4-3, after extra time, at the EBB Stadium after the sides had drawn 1-1 in Essex.

* An Aldershot XI crashed out of the Russell Cotes Cup on Tuesday, losing 5-0 at AFC Stoneham. Jack Brady scored a hat-trick for the Sydenhams League (Wessex) Division One side.

* Midfielder Kundai Benyu has extended his loan from Ipswich for a further month, until February 4. The 19-year-old has made six appearances for the Shots since joining on December 7 – earning the Man of the Match award in Saturday’s victory against Southport – and will now be available for a further three games.
