Alton manager Kevin Adair praised his side after they beat Baffins Milton Rovers 2-0 at Anstey Park in the third round of the Hampshire Senior Cup on Tuesday evening.

The Brewers took the lead in the 32nd minute when Perry Coles' shot found the bottom right-hand corner.

Alex Merrifield headed home from Coles' corner on 65 minutes to seal Alton's place in the next round.

"It was a good, disciplined performance – which is what we're about," said Adair.

"We're probably not lighting games up, but we are resilient and we're really difficult to break down. That frustrates teams.

"We're enjoying working hard – everyone loves winning. We're starting games quickly and are getting on the front foot early on.

"Perry's not scored as many goals as he would have liked, but he's got good experience and quality and other players like playing with him. He understands the game."

Alton have now won their past four games in all competitions, and kept four clean sheets in the process.

Next up for the Brewers is a home game against Spelthorne Sports in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday (3pm).

"We've got to focus on Saturday now and go about our business," said Adair.

"We'll set up in a way we think will be best for us and we'll look to keep the run going.

"Spelthorne will want to play football, but if we keep doing what we're doing we'll have a chance of winning."
