BADSHOT LEA 3, BEDFONT & FELTHAM 1
BADSHOT Lea beat bottom team Bedfont & Feltham to notch up back-to-back wins and give themselves real hope of beating the drop.
With Raynes Park losing to Abbey Rangers, the Baggies have put a five-point cushion between themselves and the bottom two of the Combined Counties Premier League.
“We will not be giving up – all of us believe we can get out of this,” said manager Michael Charles. “Hardly anyone involved at the moment was there to get us in this position, but we are all committed to getting Badshot Lea out of it.
“If we had had this squad at the start, we would be mid-table for sure, with the talent that we have.”
Badshot Lea, on a high after the welcome news that the club have got the go-ahead to start work on their new home at Wrecclesham, played particularly well in the first half and looked comfortable after taking the lead in the sixth minute.
And it was an excellent strike by Ainsley Everett who cut in from the left and whipped the ball into the top corner.
Despite some attractive approach work, the home side failed to add to their tally until the 34th minute. Skipper James Pilgrim played in a superb cross and Benga Ogunseye scored with a true striker’s header.
Two-nil at the interval, but the second half was different as lowly Bedfont came out and gave it a go.
It was no more than the visitors deserved when substitute Kendrick Harriott pulled one back on 62 minutes.
The Baggies brought on the fresh legs of Leke Somule and Luke Whiddett and found another gear, although it took them until the 81st minute to put the game to bed.
Mac Ford hit a great ball out wide to Danny Patterson who cut in and set up the predatory Ogunseye to score his second goal of the match.
Seven goals in two games now for Badshot Lea, with only two conceded.
They travel to Hanworth Villa this Saturday and will no doubt face a tougher examination against the second-placed side. On Tuesday, Badshot Lea are back at Ash United’s ground for a home match against Chertsey.
Badshot Lea: Norris, Wright, Goulter, Blake, Mountain (Whiddett 70), Pilgrim, Blackie (Somule 59), Everett, Ford, Patterson (Frisby 81), Ogunseye. Sub (not used): Charles.
