Badshot Lea are aiming to get their season off to a winning start in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Baggies – who are playing in the Isthmian League South Central Division this season after earning promotion to Step 4 for the first time in the club’s 116-year history last season – are travelling to Step 5 side Saltdean United.

Co-manager Gavin Smith is expecting his side to progress.

“We’re playing a Step 5 side so I expect us to win – I would be disappointed if we lost to a team a level below us,” he said.

“We’re confident – and you always want to do well in the FA Cup. Some teams at our level have been given byes, but I think it’s good for us to have this competitive game before the league starts next week.”

The Baggies have secured a coach for travelling supporters on Saturday, with spaces available for £15 per person on a first-come, first-served basis.
