Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith couldn’t fault his side’s performance in their 3-0 defeat at Uxbridge in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday.

The Baggies had enjoyed an eight-match unbeaten run in the league before Saturday’s defeat and were unbeaten over 90 minutes across 13 games in all competitions – only losing on penalties to Redbridge in the FA Trophy across that run.

The home side took the lead in the 48th minute when George Moore curled his finish past Baggies keeper Myles Bowman.

Bernard Mensah doubled Uxbridge’s lead on 69 minutes, and Alex Witham scored the third a minute later.

Smith still saw plenty of positives in his side’s performance though.

“I’ve always said I look at the performance over the result and I don’t think we played badly,” said Smith.

“We did plenty of good stuff, but our final bit of play in the final third was lacking.

“We were in the game at 0-0 and were playing the way we want to play.

“The first goal is a good bit of quality – which can happen at this level. Uxbridge have players with good quality.

“At 1-0 there were still opportunities for us in the game.

“Adam New has been caught in possession for the second goal and we conceded the third a minute later.”

The Baggies’ squad at Uxbridge featured four new recruits. Massimo Giamattei and Anthony Menday both started, Josh Keeya came off the bench and Adedade Adesoye was an unused substitute.

“We’ve picked up a few injuries and needed to get some players in,” said Smith.

“Anthony is a striker who gives us something we haven’t got. We’ve got people who score goals but we haven’t got that natural striker – and he offers us that.”

Baggies vie-captain George Frise is set for a spell on the sidelines with a fractured fibula bone. Frise is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks.

“We won’t have George back until next year, which is a blow,” said Smith.
