Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith was delighted with his side’s performance after they won 2-0 at home to Uxbridge in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Tuesday evening.

Kareem Akinnibi’s double was enough to give the Baggies the three points in front of a crowd of 91 at Westfield Lane.

“I thought we dominated the game,” said Smith. “We were well in control – we probably should have scored a couple more early on. It was really positive.”

The Baggies handed a first start to David Garlinge, and Smith was delighted with how the youngster acquitted himself.

“David was excellent,” said Smith. “He was fearless. I’m really pleased with him and he showed he'll be a good part of our squad next year. From the minute he stepped in at training you could tell he's got quality. In terms of ability and football intelligence he's good. He was constantly running and didn't give up.”

Smith was pleased with his whole team after a strong all-round performance against Uxbridge.

“I thought the wide players were good,” said Smith. “Defensively we were good – it was just an all-round good performance. We've had games where some people have done well and some people haven't been quite at it. That was the first time for a while where everyone's been at it, looked good and got the better of their opponent. That's how you get wins.”

Akinnibi broke the deadlock on 27 minutes with a good finish, before he fired home his second in the 71st minute, and Smith was full of praise for the Baggies’ striker.

“Kareem deserved to start,” said Smith. “We've been rotating him and Tane Caubo quite a bit because of the games we've had. Kareem did enough against Leatherhead to start again and got his rewards by getting a couple of goals.”

Next up for the Baggies is a trip to Isthmian League South Central Division champions Chertsey Town on Saturday afternoon (3pm), and Smith is looking forward to the match.

“They get good support,” said Smith. “I think they're expecting a really good crowd. It will be a good atmosphere – hopefully we can make a good showing of ourselves on Saturday.”
