Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith was hugely disappointed with his side’s performance after the Baggies crashed to a comprehensive 6-1 defeat at Northwood on Tuesday night.

The Baggies had won 4-0 at home to Northwood on Saturday, but were comprehensively beaten in the reverse Isthmian League South Central Division fixture.

Northwood raced into a 3-0 lead at half-time thanks to goals from Kofi Anokye-Boadi and Lucas Sinclair (2). The Baggies pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute through Kane Fitzgerald, but Sinclair completed his hat-trick on 62 minutes to make it 4-1.

Dan Williams scored Northwood’s fifth in the 64th minute, before Sinclair scored his fourth of the night on 71 minutes to make it 6-1.

Smith didn’t hold back in his criticism of his side after the emphatic defeat. “We weren’t good enough on the night,” said Smith.

“Northwood put the ball into our box with crosses and throw-ins and we didn’t deal with it. We pulled a goal back through Kane, and if we got a second goal then we might have been back in it.

“The fourth goal was the killer goal, though, and maybe we were a bit naive trying to get back in the game. We beat Northwood 4-0 on Saturday – but in no way was it a 4-0 game.

“Northwood obviously wanted revenge for Saturday and they fully deserved the win. In this league most teams have been on the wrong end of a heavy defeat – most teams have quality players who will punish you if you’re not quite at it. As much as I am disappointed I can’t question the players’ efforts – that is one thing you can never question with our group.”

Next up for the Baggies is a trip to Ashford Town (Middlesex) in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Thursday evening (7.45pm), and Smith wants to see a positive reaction from his side.

“We need a reaction from Tuesday,” said Smith.

“With Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday fixtures this week we might need to freshen the team up with some changes.”
