ASH UTD 2, FARNHAM TN 4
FARNHAM Town, without a league match at the weekend, safely negotiated a tricky Aldershot Senior Cup match against local rivals Ash United on Tuesday night.
The visitors had to come from behind to beat the spirited Division One side, but Paul Tanner was pleased with Town’s performance ahead of a big home league fixture against Guildford City this Saturday.
“We looked solid right the way through the team, even though we conceded two goals,” said the Town boss. “The final scoreline showed the different level of the sides.”
It’s a time of transition for Farnham, with a number of new faces in their line-up. “But I feel we are progressing to where we need to be at this stage of the season,” said Tanner.
Ash shook the visitors by taking the lead after just four minutes, Jay Foster beating Richard Ossai from close range.
New captain Doug Ford soon equalised from a well-taken Steve Ramsden corner and then Elliott Cardona put Farnham in control with a brace of goals before half-time.
Cardona went on to complete a fine hat-trick in the second half, but Ash were not finished and had the last word with a goal from Neil Hardy after a good build-up.
Farnham newcomer Sam Slater came on for the final 20 minutes and fitted smoothly into his midfield role.
Ash deserved their two goals, but Farnham were generally well-organised at the back and Ossai was his usual commanding presence in goal.
Sam Henneberg acquitted himself well in an unusual right-back role, while Ford and George Spiers created several chances with their attacking play on the flanks.
Farnham: Ossia, Henneberg, Ford, Spiers, Smith, Dillon, Cox, Stains, Ramsden, Cardona, Poole. Subs: Charles, Slater, Pearson, Danall.
