FARNHAM TOWN 0, HORLEY TOWN 1
A SECOND successive 1-0 home defeat for Farnham in the Combined Counties Premier League, but this was a much better overall performance following last week’s drab game.
A point apiece would have been fair in a match of hardly any clear-cut chances, but Horley snatched the spoils in the third minute of added time, leaving Farnham with nothing to show for their efforts.
“We competed right the way through and had a better pace around the 18-yard box and closer to the goal, but I can’t say there were many decent chances,” said manager Paul Tanner who made three changes and played with a different formation after the defeat to CB?Hounslow.
Neither Farnham or Horley took the game by the scruff of the neck on a warm afternoon at the Memorial Ground.
Two solid defences tended to cancel each other out and the only incident that really mattered came deep into added time. No player seemed to be taking responsibility as the ball bounced around the Farnham goalmouth until Horley striker Kyle Hough turned to apply the decisive touch.
A real sickener for Farnham who, if anything, had the edge in a close-fought encounter.
“We’ve again come out with nothing due to a lapse of concentration at a vital time in the game,” said Tanner. “We still have three games left to reach our target of 50 points, but, for me, this was another points lost.”
Farnham have two tough fixtures over Easter. They visit Spelthorne Sports this Saturday and, on Easter Monday, are home to Westfield, the probable runners-up behind Hartley Wintney. Town travel to Chertsey for their final game on Saturday, April 22.
*Farnham might yet face Hartley Wintney in an Aldershot Senior Cup semi-final, with Camberley currently being investigated about possible fielding an ineligible player.
