BAGSHOT 2, FARNHAM TN 8 (after extra time)
FOLLOWING a dismal run of league results and a postponement last Saturday, Farnham enjoyed a late goal spree in Tuesday’s re-arranged Aldershot Senior Cup quarter-final.
Playing at Fleet Spurs’ ground, Farnham eventually overcame Division? One strugglers Bagshot by scoring six goals in extra time after the sides had been locked together, 2-2, after 90 minutes.
But the game ended in chaos, with Bagshot down to seven men after two red cards and a spate of injuries.
Ugly scenes involving players, spectators and coaching staff on both sides will mean an investigation by the FA, although Farnham at least ended the game with 11 players on the pitch.
Town took an early lead through George Spiers, but failed to capitalise on several more chances. A spirited Bagshot equalised with a thunderous shot that gave Ryan Hall no chance and the returning Matt Glass missed a penalty as Farnham continued to make hard work of the tie.
The second half was a fractious affair and Bagshot, leading 2-1 and already down to ten men, were four minutes from victory when Jordan Stepney saved Farnham with a scrambled goal following an Ashley Peck corner, so taking the match into extra time.
It was the Pascal Thornton show in extra time. The substitute soon put Town in front and then Glass broke clear of the Bagshot back line to slot home and make it 4-2.
The powerful Thornton added two more goals in rapid succession to make certain of victory.
Fellow substitute Sharif Yacoob, after being fouled, got up to rifle home the penalty for Farnham’s seventh.
Then Thornton was bundled over and the referee again pointed to the spot. That sparked off the mass melee and it was some time before calm was restored and Thornton put away the penalty for his fourth goal.
Having won for the first time in over two months, Town hope this result will lead to a run of better form as they attempt to pull away from the relegation zone. They travel to Abbey Rangers this Saturday.
Badshot Lea, frustrated by the weather last weekend, have no Division? One fixture this Saturday. On Tuesday, the Baggies go for a 12th straight win when they host Bedfont & Feltham at Camberley’s Krooner Park ground.
