FARNHAM Town made it three wins on the bounce with a 3-2 victory over Division One side Abbey Rangers in the Premier Challenge Cup on Tuesday.
This followed Town’s impressive 4-1 win over Premier Division top-five side Hanworth Villa at the Memorial Ground last Saturday.
Mark Corbett (2), Jack Dillon and John Lancashire were the scorers as Farnham took a four-goal lead before Adam Baigent pulled one back for the visitors.
In what manager Paul Tanner called “our best performance of the season,” Town dominated throughout.
A missed penalty by Corbett and a disallowed effort by Max Meaton failed to dishearten Farnham and Corbett put them ahead with a 25-yard volley after 36 minutes.
Town soaked up some Hanworth pressure for 20 minutes of the second half, before Corbett headed his second after a slick build-up by Dillon and Meaton.
Hanworth lost momentum and Dillon and Lancashire punished them with a goal apiece.
In Tuesday’s cup match, it took a goal from full-back Matt Graham to set Farnham on their way.
Abbey fought back to lead 2-1, but that man Graham equalised and the fast-improving Ross Cheek popped up to score the late winner.
Badshot Lea, under new manager Ben Dillon, led 2-0 against fourth-placed Horley Town at half-time last Saturday, but eventually had to settle for a 3-3 draw.
In-form Horley made a confident start, keeping the ball well, but the home side took the lead against the run of play when Mason Saunders guided a free-kick round the wall and into the net.
Shortly before the break, the Baggies doubled their lead. James Pilgrim’s precise through-pass split the Horley defence and skipper Ryan Stephens ran on to lift the ball over the keeper.
A slice of luck helped Horley back into the game soon after half-time. Liam Cox’s floated cross deceived keeper Pat Kinsella and went straight into the net.
On 65 minutes, the visitors were level, left-back Jack Popplet scoring with a left-foot shot.
Horley were in the ascendancy, but a sending-off changed things and Craig Barker restored Badshot’s lead with a clinical finish after smart work by Darren Blake and Gavin Muir.
However, with only six minutes to go, the Baggies failed to clear their lines and Ashley Nadesan’s volley salvaged a point for the depleted visitors.
Badshot Lea went out of the Challenge Cup on Tuesday, beaten 4-2 by Spelthorne Sports at Shawfield Road.
