Farnham Town are hoping for a bumper crowd at The Memorial Ground on Saturday for the club’s historic FA Cup tie against Chesham United (3pm).
Town have equalled the club’s best-ever FA Cup run by reaching the second qualifying round, and club director Harry Hugo has urged the community to pack The Memorial Ground on Saturday as the club looks to make history and reach the third qualifying round for the first time.
“Saturday’s FA Cup game is historic for the club but is also historic for the town,” said Hugo.
“We want Saturday to be a real community event.
“Everyone who comes along on Saturday and gets a ticket, a burger and a drink is putting money directly into the club.
“We’ve invested in our infrastructure, our facilities and the community – so the community will benefit as well.
“Our crowds have been growing and are trending upwards, but we know big FA Cup games are a great opportunity to attract new fans. Hopefully those fans who visit us for the first time on Saturday enjoy their day and want to come back.
“The ideal script would be a great game of football with Farnham scoring a last-minute winner – that would be ideal but we can’t control the football.
“We can control everything else around the football though and make sure everyone has a fantastic matchday experience.
“Chesham are two leagues above us, so the bigger the crowd we can have supporting Farnham the better our chances.
“It promises to be an excellent cup tie between two teams in fantastic form – we’ve won nine out of nine so far this season and Chesham are top of their league.
“When I became part of the club I wanted to create memories for the community.
“Saturday promises to be one of those memorable occasions and there is the chance to witness history.
“If we can get through to the third qualifying round as a Step 5 club that would be a huge achievement.
“We could potentially draw a Step 2 side like Torquay or Yeovil and all the attention that would bring to the town – you just never know in the FA Cup.
“As with all our FA Cup and FA Vase games this season the team will play in our pink away kit, and it would be great to see loads of fans in pink on Saturday.”
