Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was delighted with his side’s performance as they picked up a comprehensive 6-0 win at Tadley Calleva in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday afternoon to strengthen their grip at the top of the table.

Johnson’s side were quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the fifth minute through Owen Dean’s header at the back post.

The visitors created a number of chances in the first half, but were unable to add to their tally before the break.

Town had the perfect start to the second half when Shamal Edwards swept home on 46 minutes.

That was the cue for the floodgates to open. Adam Liddle made it 3-0 in the 55th minute, before Edwards scored his second a minute later after a fine passing move.

Substitute Dean Rule scored the fifth on 70 minutes when he rounded Tadley keeper Craig Atkinson and slotted home.

Charlie Postance rounded off the scoring in the 84th minute when he smashed home a thunderbolt from the edge of the box.

The result saw Farnham move three points clear at the top of the Combined Counties Premier Division South after second-placed Knaphill lost 2-1 at home to Abbey Rangers and third-placed Jersey Bulls drew 2-2 at Cobham.

The win was only Farnham’s second league game since the end of October after a number of postponements, FA Vase games and a Premier Challenge Cup game.

Town have now won their first 14 league games and have a number of games in hand on the teams below them.

“It was important to get back to the league and get another win as we’d only had one league game in six weeks,” said Johnson.

“We set the tone at the start of the game and could have scored more in the first half.

“We limited Tadley to very little and looked after the ball really well all game.

“We were ruthless in the second half and it’s important we keep our standards up.

“This time of year can be silly season with some funny results. People have Christmas parties and other commitments and you get some strange results, but luckily the boys here are all fully committed to what we’re doing.”

Town were frustrated by the weather on Tuesday night when their Combined Counties Premier Division South match at home to Spelthorne Sports was postponed after persistent rain.

Farnham will host Camberley Town at The Memorial Ground in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday (1pm), and Johnson is looking forward to the game.

“It’s a derby so Camberley will be up for it,” said Johnson. “It’s a game to look forward to.”
