THE first Aldershot Table Tennis League silverware of the season was decided last week when Frimley D beat Tennis F in the Division Three Cup final.

Just a few days before, Frimley had beaten Ash E 5-0 in the semi-final. Frimley used Gary Nicholson, Tony Harrison and Anthony Connelly in the final. Nicholson and Connelly were both unbeaten in the 7-2 victory.

In the Division Four Cup semi-finals, Crawley Ridge B thrashed a two-man Ash G outfit 8-1, with David Skellern and Phil Garrett both undefeated.

In the final, Crawley will meet Frimley E who edged past Ash H 5-4. Ben Carr won all three for Ash, while the Frimley duo of Steve Chapman and Steve Bridle took two apiece.

Bentley A moved into the final of the Division One Cup, where Tennis A await them, with a 7-2 victory over Central B. Central fielded only two players, so with Andy Mudie winning both his matches for Bentley, the result was rather predictable. Martin Townshend did win his other two matches for Central.

The Bob Taylor Cup appears to be heading the way of Division Two after victories in their last two matches. The team of David Joyce, Pu Zhang and Melvyn Lovegrove appeared in both and they chalked up an 81/2-31/2 victory over Division Three and a narrower 61/2-51/2 success over Division Four. In the latter match, their success in the doubles was critical, winning all three. Ironically, in their bigger win, they lost two out of three doubles, but won most of the singles.

Divisions One and Four fought out a draw, with Colin Baggott undefeated for Division One.
