PETERSFIELD T 1, EGHAM TN 0
LOVE Lane, with its pronounced slope, proved a graveyard for another high-riding team.
A fortnight after beating second-placed St Ives, Petersfield claimed another prize scalp, this time beating leaders Egham Town with a single Alex Przespoleski goal.
The visitors were on a ten-match winning run, but were outfought by the Rams who notched up their third straight league win.
Egham, although clearly unsettled by the incline, almost took the lead on 25 minutes when a 25-yard effort from Jake Cass hit the upright.
Petersfield responded with a good chance of their own, Egham keeper Jamie Norris using his foot to deflect a shot from Przespoleski.
Four minutes from half-time, Petersfield made a timely breakthrough. Howard Neighbour forced Norris into another decent save, but Egham failed to clear the danger. Petersfield pressed home their attack and Przespoleski scored with a low drive.
Both sides had their chances in the second half, but Petersfield clung on to their hard-earned lead with some disciplined defence.
Egham substitute Danny Bassett stretched the home rearguard with his pace and only a last-gasp clearance denied him an equaliser when he sprinted through to get on the end of Chris Henry’s long cross.
The Rams clipped the bar in a scramble following a free-kick, while Egham thought they had a good case for a penalty when Brendan Matthew was bundled over in the box. Referee Lewis Sandue waved play on.
Neighbour and Jerome Ecclestone were both cautioned after a tussle.
Egham are still top on goal difference, while Petersfield moved up to 14th.
BEDFORD Town 2, Petersfield Town 2. The Rams wiped out a two-goal deficit to come away from the Eyrie with a valuable point on Tuesday night.
Bedford established a healthy 2-0 lead at half-time after goals from Dylan Gittens and Javia Roberts.
Petersfield needed an early goal on the restart and Howard Neighbour obliged with a vital strike.
Gary Norgate equalised for the Rams who maintain 14th place in the league table.
