Hartley Wintney 3, Alresford Town 2

ALRESFORD Town have had a week to forget.

After losing 1-0 at home to Fareham Town at Arlebury Park on Saturday, the Magpies had their wings clipped as they lost by the odd goal in five against Southern League side Hartley Wintney in the quarter-finals of the Aldershot Senior Cup on Tuesday.

To add insult to injury, while Alresford were losing at Hartley Wintney, they also lost the Wessex Premier Division lead for the first time since August as they were overtaken by a rampant AFC Stoneham side who hammered hapless Amesbury Town 9-0.

Stoneham’s crushing win puts them one point ahead of the Magpies with a game in hand ahead of a huge game between the top two at the HP Arena on Saturday.

In the Aldershot Senior Cup, the Magpies gave Hartley Wintney a big scare before bowing out.

Ollie Dennett stunned the home faithful with a goal after just two minutes before two goals from Joe Gater turned the tie on its head. Mike Gosney levelled the scores ten minutes from time but Joe Grant broke Magpies hearts in stoppage time.
