Fleet Town 2, Alresford Town 3

ALRESFORD Town head into FA Cup action on Saturday on the crest of a wave after a perfect start to their Wessex League campaign.

The soaring Magpies, who host Baffins Milton Rovers in the extra preliminary round of the world’s oldest knockout cup competition at the weekend, made it two wins from two in the league with a game 3-2 win at Fleet Town’s Calthorpe Park ground on Tuesday night.

Goals from Craig Harding, Craig McAllister and George Hallahan sank a Fleet side who have made a cautious start to the season having been relegated from the Southern League in April.

The Magpies had led 2-0 at half-time but faced a Town fightback in the second half before continuing their perfect start to the season – one of only five teams to boast a 100 per cent record.

On Saturday, Alresford began their Premier Division campaign in good style with a comfortable 2-0 win over Cowes Sports at Arlebury Park.

After a goalless first half, Craig Harding fired the Magpies into the lead two minutes after the break before Duarte Martins made the game safe with a second goal on 65 minutes.

On Saturday, Alresford embark on the fairtyale that is the FA Cup, standing as they do a dozen games away from a date at Wembley.

Standing in their way at the first hurdle are fellow Wessex Premier side Baffins Milton, who have had a mixed start to their league campaign.

The Portsmouth side were beaten 3-2 at home by Fareham Town on Tuesday night having hammered hapless Amesbury Town 5-0 away in their season’s opener three days earlier.

The winners of Saturday’s extra preliminary round tie will face the winners of Fleet Town and Farnham Town in the preliminary round on August 24.
