Petersfield Town co-manager Pat Suraci has called on his side to make one last push to seal a play-off place in Division One of the Wessex League.
The Rams were left kicking their heels on Saturday when their league game at Hamworthy Recreation was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
The match has been rearranged for Tuesday, April 18, which leaves the Rams with a gruelling run of five games in ten days to finish their league campaign – all away from home – starting at Whitchurch United on Saturday.
Petersfield then travel to Totton & Eling next Tuesday (April 11), Romsey Town next Thursday (April 13) and Fawley next Saturday (April 15) – and with such a demanding schedule, Suraci used Saturday’s postponement as a chance to give his players a rest.
“We gave the lads the day off,” he said.
“We’re training this week and then we’ve got five games in ten days. We’re taking it one game at a time and concentrating on what is in front of us.
“We played Whitchurch early on in the season and we’re definitely expecting a tough game.
“Everyone is used to playing Saturday and Tuesday, but then playing on the Thursday will test us.
“We will go into every game looking to win, with a focus on our performance and what we do.”
Petersfield remain in the final play-off position in fifth place, three points ahead of Downton, and Suraci says sealing a top-five finish is in his side’s hands.
“If we win games we will finish in the play-offs,” he said.
“It’s in our hands – it’s all up to us. It’s the last push now and we want to finish as high as we can in the league.
“We need to keep calm, keep focused and keep working hard. If you keep working hard you get what you deserve.”
The Rams have a Wessex League Cup final against Baffins Milton Rovers to look forward to on Saturday, May 6, but Suraci is concentrating on the league.
“The cup final is really good for the club, all the volunteers and the supporters,” he said.
“It will be a nice day out and hopefully the sun shines.
“We will do our best to try to win.
“No-one expected Petersfield to reach the play-offs and a cup final, so if we can finish in a play-off spot, anything else will be a bonus.”
