MONEYFIELDS 1, PETERSFIELD TN 2
PETERSFIELD, down to ten men after just 20 minutes, showed real grit to win only the third FA Cup game in their history at former Wessex League opponents Moneyfields last Saturday.
Howard Neighbour, making his debut for the Rams, was shown a straight red card for a high challenge.
A somewhat harsh decision, but his team-mates dug in and never stopped working, eventually clinching a place in the first qualifying round for the first time since the club became known as Town. Their reward is a home tie with Southern League Premier side Weymouth on September 12.
Petersfield made the perfect start, taking the lead after just five minutes. A free-kick was flicked into the path of skipper Ryan Woodford who fired a low shot past keeper Gary Streeter.
But the Rams had to reorganise after Neighbour’s dismissal as Moneyfields used their numerical advantage to stretch the visitors.
The home team started the second half strongly and equalised after just two minutes. A long ball was played into the penalty area and substitute Tom McInnes, left unmarked at the far post, headed back across goal and into the net.
Petersfield persevered with their passing game and Jason Silver was unlucky not to restore the lead with a sweet shot that beat Streeter, but hit the post.
Rams manager Ian Saunders made a double substitution and the introduction of Joe Richardson and Michael Dixon changed the course of the game. Within three minutes of coming on, Dixon got the winner.
A corner was only half cleared and Joe Briggs crossed low to the near post where Dixon finished off from two yards out.
Dixon almost made it 3-1 when he cut inside his marker and unleashed a shot which struck the outside of the post.
Petersfield: Smith, Hyde, Wain, Woodford, Sackman, Ford, Green (Richardson), Przespoleswski (Dixon), Neighbour, Briggs, Silver (O Searle). Subs (not used): Walker, McEnery, Thompson, Neal.
Petersfield 2, Uxbridge. Petersfield completed a productive weekend with their first Southern League victory on Bank Holiday Monday.
Matt Woods put Uxbridge ahead after only six minutes, only for Petersfield to equalise with the next attack as Alek Przespolewski turned in a cross from Jason Silver.
Both teams then enjoyed periods of pressure, but it was Petersfield who snatched all three points with ten minutes to go.
Mike McEnery pulled a cross from the byline back to Jordan Neal who shot low inside the near post.
