Petersfield Town co-manager Pat Suraci says a play-off finish is in his side’s hands.

The Rams’ promotion push was put on hold by the wet weather on Saturday, when their match at mid-table Totton & Eling in Division 1 of the Wessex League was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

The Rams are well-placed to qualify for the end-of-season play-offs as they sit in fifth place in the table with 67 points.

Petersfield were hoping to continue the momentum they gained from last Tuesday night’s 3-0 victory at home to promotion chasers Newport (IoW), but they were left kicking their heels.

Sixth-placed Downton took advantage of Petersfield’s postponement with a 4-2 win against Folland Sports, but Suraci has challenged the Rams to complete the job and seal a top-five finish.

“We need to focus on ourselves and getting the points we need to finish in the play-offs,” said Suraci.

“We definitely don’t want to focus on Downton – although it’s hard not to. We’ve got six games left. It’s about what we do.”

Petersfield were out of luck again on Tuesday night when their Wessex League Cup semi-final at Premier Division Fareham Town was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Next up for the Rams is a return to league action on Saturday, with a tricky home match against a high-flying Andover New Street side. Petersfield won 1-0 at Andover in the reverse fixture last month, and while Suraci is expecting a difficult game he insists his side should approach the match with nothing to fear.

“Andover New Street are up there for a reason and it will be another tough game, but we won at their place and will go into the game with confidence,” he said.

“It’s our last home game of the regular season, so hopefully a big crowd will come out to watch us.”

Petersfield will also be in league action next Tuesday night (March 28), when they will travel to Romsey Town.

The Rams won 5-0 at home to Romsey back in November.
