PETERSFIELD TOWN 0, CHALFONT ST PETER 2 (Evo-Stik Southern League Div I Central)

PETERSFIELD Town felt the backlash of Chalfont St Peter’s FA Trophy defeat in midweek.

The Saints had lost a penalty shoot-out, 7-8, to Burgess Hill and were in the mood to take out their disappointment on lowly Petersfield who still seemed unsettled by the off-field events of the last fortnight.

It might have been different if Harry Wedlake had scored for the Rams after three minutes, hitting the post from close range.

Instead, Chalfont ended their seven-hour goal drought on 33 minutes. Petersfield made a sorry hash of defending a corner and Jack Mullan powered his header home.

Just three minutes later, Craige Tomkins doubled the lead with a swerving shot from distance.

Petersfield’s troubles increased when they lost goalkeeper George Hill to injury before half-time.

Chalfont were content to sit on their lead in the second half and although Petersfield exerted some late pressure, the visitors easily saw out the game.

Petersfield are home to Barton Rovers this Saturday. On Tuesday, the Rams host Hamble Club in a delayed Russell Cotes Cup second-round match.

Farnborough Tn 2, Petersfield Tn 0. Boro consolidated second place in the league with Tuesday night’s win and deepened Petersfield’s plight near the foot of the table. The Rams are two points off the bottom, having played two games more than the teams either side of them.

Perry Coles scored his ninth goal of the season on a near frozen pitch at Rushmoor and Keith Emmerson made sure of the victory in the 57th minute.

* Before kick-off, the teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the air crash in Colombia which involved members of the Chapecoense football team from Brazil.
