BADSHOT LEA 1, FARNHAM TOWN 0
IT’S been a good week for Badshot Lea. They followed up Saturday’s much-needed league victory with a revenge win against Farnham Town on Tuesday – this time in the Surrey Senior Cup.
Badshot Lea, who lost by a single goal to Farnham in the league just three weeks ago, won a close cup-tie of many chances for both sides with a well-taken Danny Turner goal in the 55th minute.
The Baggies are rewarded with a third-round home tie against Raynes Park Vale on January 12.
Badshot Lea 2, Horley Tn 1. An overdue win for Badshot Lea put them level on points with Raynes Park in the lower reaches of the Combined Counties League Premier Division.
Danny Turner came off the bench to score the Baggies’ winner in injury time.
Matt Stamp had put the home side ahead midway through the first half, but Ryan Brackpool equalised within two minutes for Horley.
“It was the old cliché of a game of two halves,” said Badshot Lea manager Michael Charles. “Horley were on top first half and we took the second half. We knew they were an organised team, but our defence was superb.”
Kurt Greenaway, one of Charles’ former charges at Alton, had an excellent game in attack, giving the Horley defenders no time on the ball and making life a lot easier for his team-mates.
“Our midfielders played great football and the strikers caused all sorts of problems. It was a good day all round,” said the manager.
Hanworth 1, Farnham 0. Farnham pushed high-riding Hanworth close, but a second-half goal from Dean Millborrow earned the visitors all three points.
Farnham are home to Colliers Wood this Saturday. Badshot Lea are without a league fixture.
