TWO goals from Matt Glass and an exquisite lob from Nick Medcraft increased the chances of Farnham Town securing a top three finish in Division One of the Combined Counties League with a comfortable 3-1 win over Bedfont & Feltham at the Memorial Ground on Saturday.

Glass coolly found the bottom left-hand corner of the net from 12 yards after Town were awarded a disputed penalty two minutes before the break after Medcraft was adjudged to have been obstructed in the box.

Medcraft then doubled Town’s lead on 62 minutes when he sent a delightful lob over Bedfont’s temporary goalkeeper who had rushed out of his six-yard box in a desperate attempt to clear.

And Glass put the result beyond any doubt two minutes later when he sent a low right-footed shot back past the goalkeeper into the far corner.

Michael Capon scored a consolation for Bedfont in stoppage time as Town rounded off their last home game of the season with a dominant win.

Town currently lie in third place in Division One as they seek a place in next season’s FA Cup competition, with only the top three at this stage guaranteed eligibility to apply for next season’s showpiece knockout competition.

Farnham close out their season next Saturday away at Epsom & Ewell, while their only challengers for third place, Tooting Bec, who lie one point behind in fourth but with a game in hand, are at home to title-chasing Frimley Green on Tuesday night before hosting Sandhurst Town next Saturday.

In the Premier Division, battling Badshot Lea ensured a top half finish when they drew 0-0 away at in-form Raynes Park Vale on Saturday.

Gavin Smith’s charges, who were in the bottom two when the new boss took over at the end of January alongside Dave Ford, end their season next Saturday away at Knaphill Athletic.
