FARNHAM Town have come to terms there will be no promotion in the Combined Counties League after all.
Town were almost certain to be promoted to the Premier when the league programme was cut short – and then their hopes were dashed by the FA when they announced all last season’s results were being expunged, and that there would be no promotion or relegation.
Town were one of the many clubs campaigning against the decision – but with the FA Council last week supporting the move, the challenge now seems fruitless.
Chairman Paul Tanner said: “The FA’s decision still leaves a sour taste, but we’ve accepted it.
“We felt it important to make our voice heard, but we always knew it was going to be difficult for clubs at our level.
“So while we were complaining, we were always preparing ourselves for this.
“And it’s difficult to complain too much when there are so many much more important things going on in the world.
“Manager Luke Turkington and his team are keen to carry on. They were obviously disappointed not to go up, but everything was moving in the right direction, and they are determined to do all they can to gain promotion next time.
“This is a tough time for lots of clubs at our level and I’m not sure all of them will come through this.
“We are fortunate that financially we are in a good position, and that’s only thanks to the hard work of a lot of people over the past couple of years.”
