FARNHAM TN 0, REDHILL 4
Hopes that Saturday’s late show against Knaphill would mark a watershed in Farnham’s season were dashed in the first 45 minutes on Tuesday by an impressive Redhill side, full of pace, power and intensity, who recorded a fifth straight victory in the Combined Counties Premier League.
The visitors were ahead inside two minutes when Town defender Jordan Stepney got the wrong side of his man and in his attempts to get back, gave away a penalty that Kerry Kedze tucked away with aplomb.
Six minutes later, the home fans were groaning as Redhill doubled their lead. Town defenders misjudged a cross and Lewis Taylor, finding himself unmarked ten yards out, duly picked his spot.
Unlike in previous weeks, Farnham didn’t let their heads drop and asked questions of the Redhill defence. But just as it seemed that they would avoid further punishment before the break, Redhill struck twice in a three-minute spell to settle the outcome.
The first came from a long throw-in that the home defence again misjudged and the ball eventually dropped to an unmarked Gavin Long who scored from very close range.
Farnham were reeling and it got worse when, in the 44th minute, Jacob Mendy-Mendy struck home an unstoppable drive from 25 yards.
Emmanuel Boudine, the newly-installed Farnham manager, changed both tactics and the line-up for the second half and the defence and midfield looked much more solid and organised.
In truth, this took away some of Town’s attacking threat, but at least it meant no repeat of the 11-1 drubbing against Sutton Common and Redhill were unable to add to their goal tally.
The Easter weekend sees Town make the trip to Spelthorne on Saturday and there’s the aways hotly contested derby against Camberley to look forward to on Monday (11.30am kick-off at the Memorial Ground).
