Alton Town’s fast-unravelling season sunk to a new low on Tuesday night when their rearranged trip to the Isle of Wight was called off.

The Brewers, who have now lost nine games in a row to sink from the relative comfort of fifth place in Wessex League Division One to 13th, were due to face Newport in a game which was postponed by heavy snow on February 2.

But Alton couldn’t raise a side to play at St George’s Park and must now wait to see what action the league takes.

The Brewers slumped to their ninth consecutive loss, a run which stretches all the way back to a 5-1 win against East Hampshire rivals Petersfield Town on December 22, when they were sucker-punched by two stoppage-time goals at Ringwood Town on Saturday.

Harvey Tanner and boss Mark Corbett found the net for Alton Town, who face a big week as they travel to face fourth-placed AFC Stoneham on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) before an away game against basement boys Totton & Eling next Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).
