Camberley Town 0, Alresford Town 2

THE soaring Magpies continued their fine form by reaching the quarter-finals of the Aldershot Senior Cup with a 2-0 win against Camberley Town at Krooner Park on Tuesday night.

Duarte Martins and Ollie Dennett found the target in the second half against the Combined Counties League Premier Division side to set up a tie with Southern League Hartley Wintney in the last eight.

And what was arguably most impressive was that Alresford’s side featured seven teenagers.

Martins took his season’s tally to 13 while Dennett has now scored eight goals in just five games since joining Alresford from Havant & Waterlooville at the start of the year.

The victory at Camberley, which was marred by a bad injury to one of the home players, means the Magpies have now reached a second cup quarter-final this season as they also face Hamble Club in the last eight of the Wessex League Cup in a game set to be played on February 11.

And Alresford are still trying to make the best of their way home as they continue to head the Wessex Premier Division table.

Last Saturday, two goals from that man Dennett and a third from Conall Bark propelled the Magpies to a 3-0 win at Shaftesbury after a long trip to Dorset.

The win leaves Alresford five points ahead of AFC Stoneham, who were held to a goalless draw by fast-improving Horndean, but Stoneham have two games in hand.

Lymington moved up to third place with a 2-0 win at AFC Portchester, but they trail the Magpies by 11 points despite having two games in hand.

On Saturday, Alresford face Fareham Town at Arlebury Park before a huge game at closest challengers AFC Stoneham on February 8.
