FOR pretty much 100 years, members of Alton Golf Club have been going head-to-head throughout the season in various knockout matchplay competitions.

And this year has been no exception.

Those who enjoy watching the Ryder Cup know that these matches always provide many thrills and spills and enjoyment for the spectators.

Mixed doubles teams played for the Bennett Cup and the winners were Marion Fell and Terry McCrossan.

The singles winner, who picked up the Statford Cup, was Stuart Blundell after a close tussle with club captain Andy Trimmer.

The seniors’ matchplay title was won by Terry McCrossan, who beat Malcolm Momtara in the final.

In the men’s four-ball competition, Roger Chapman and Derek Gardner were beaten 5&3 by Bernie Shaw and Tony Ransley.
