COWDRAY Park Golf Club’s November Medal went ahead in dismal foggy conditions, with visibility down to 100 yards, making it particularly difficult for the big hitters. The standard scratch score was accordingly increased to 71.
The Division One winner was Mark Jasper with a net 68, on countback from Scott Evans. Tied for third on 69 were Martin Milward and Todd White, while John Doran, last month’s winner, and Matt Hill followed on 70.
The Division Two winner was Richard Whitcomb, also with a net 68, and also on a countback, from Justin Thorpe. William Yates (69) was third and Dave Hayward (70) fourth.
Division Three produced the overall winner, with Chris Jenkins returning a net 67, ahead of runner-up Ben Leah (68) and Steve Hathaway (70).
Octogenarian Denis Stillwell continued to roll back the years with a net 74 and sixth spot.
Cowdray Park Seniors held their annual match between the under-71s and over-72s for the Jimmy Thompson Trophy. This was a four-ball better-ball, with the ‘unders’ playing from the white tees and the ‘overs’ from the yellows.
In testing conditions, the over-72s won by 19 points to 11. Winning captain Dave Hirons attributed the win to ‘experience and guile’ over the ‘brash enthusiasm of youth’.
Shot of the day was played by Graham Thompson who, at the par-four 15th, chipped in from the rough for a birdie.
