THE second James Stephenson Memorial Golf Day was held at Old Thorns, Liphook on Friday, November 4.
Over 80 golfers took part and, despite some inclement weather, enjoyed the day and played some good quality golf.
The event is a memorial to James Stephenson who was head chef at the Applegarth Farm restaurant, near Grayshott until his untimely death in a road accident on New Year’s Day 2015.
Will Benson, the owner of Applegarth, set up this annual event to support James’ two young daughters and one of his favourite charities, the Cardomyopathy Association.
The overall winners by a huge margin were the team led by Nick Child with an impressive stableford score of 103 points. Their nearest rivals totalled 92 points.
The winners received a trophy, modelled with the head of the putter used by James.
Apart from 18 holes of golf, the day included an auction and other fund-raising initiatives and the many sponsors were able to witness their donations being sold or given as prizes.
A substantial sum was raised for the girls and for the charity and the organisers are grateful to all who supported the event and to Old Thorns for generously providing the golf course for the day.
Next year’s James Stephenson Golf Day is already being planned and will be held at Old Thorns on Friday, November 3.
