ANDOVER 2, HASLEMERE 10
HASLEMERE are threatening to take Hampshire/Surrey Regional 2 by storm after scoring 15 goals in their first two games.
In their first away match of the campaign, Haslemere took on Andover, also promoted last season when the two teams contested the Hampshire 1 title.
From the start, Haslemere could see it was their game for the taking and with their forwards in sensational form, the Blues were unstoppable.
Nic Cope, Andy Powell, Ed Whitworth and Elliott Hall, quite simply, ran Andover ragged.
After a delayed start, Haslemere got the ball rolling when Cope, who has made the transition from football to hockey, scored the first of his four goals, slotting home from a few yards out.
The first of Powell’s hat-trick was a well-taken effort from a deflection. Apart from his goals, his runs off the ball gave the home defence nightmares
Whitworth got on the scoresheet with a reverse-stick rocket, while left-back James Bennett scored his maiden league goal for the team with a clean hit from a short corner.
Haslemere continued their all-out assault in the second half and although Andover scored two goals of their own, they were forced to take a heavy bombardment.
Hall got on the scoresheet, while Cope, after completing his treble, signed off with a deflected effort high into the net for his fourth.
Right-winger Powell took Haslemere into double figures with a cracking team goal, much to the delight of supporters, players and management.
Haslemere are back at Woolmer Hill this Saturday when Romsey are the visitors.
