Haslemere Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team secured three much-needed points with a 3-1 win at Portsmouth.
In the first two minutes of the game Kate Hutchinson found Alice Toynton, who dodged past two players and dispatched a reverse-stick shot on to the backboards. Cleo Buirski then sent an aerial down the line for Mel Redman to send a cross in front of goal, which Toynton nearly followed up with a second.
Haslemere doubled their lead after the break. The visitors were awarded a penalty flick after Rachael Selmes was stick tackled at the top of the D. Toynton slotted home to make it 2-0.
Portsmouth won a penalty corner and scored from a drag flick to make it 2-1 with nine minutes to go. Haslemere made it 3-1 when Hannah Enticknap’s pass found Redman, who deflected the ball into the goal.
