HASLEMERE 5, ANDOVER 1

HASLEMERE Ladies showed a ruthless touch as they dispatched Andover at Woolmer Hill to remain just two points adrift of Hampshire League leaders Winchester.

Andover were made aware of Haslemere’s fierce will to win in the opening minutes when Heidi Wells scored an excellent first goal after an equally good assist from Donna Read.

The confident home side soon got possession back and dominated play with smooth link play from the midfield and forwards.

Soon, Theika Botterill drove into the D and found Wells in a good position to score her second goal.

Almost before they knew what was happening, Andover were 4-0 down as Read found the target and then Alex Hardy scored with a lovely reverse strike.

The frustrated visitors tried to hit back, but Haslemere were not finished in this half and Hannah Cross struck a great reverse-stick shot of her own to make it 5-0 at the break.

Although Andover stepped up their game in the second half, Haslemere continued to have most of the possession. Celia Hall had an impressive game and Kate Hutchings was particularly solid in defence.

The visitors finally pulled a goal back, but Haslemere finished emphatic winners. Player of the Match was shared between Sarah Elworthy, Hannah Cross and Celia Hall.
