Alton Runners and Alton Lions Club have organised the 2026 running of the Alton 10-Mile Race for May 10 at 9.30am.
This will be the 42nd year of the event, which is part of the Hampshire Road Race League and takes place on an undulating and scenic course.
The Alton 10 is open to all runners and a total of 449 took part in the 2025 race. It offers a rewarding challenge, guiding participants through the picturesque countryside and village lanes of Hampshire, with stunning views of the surrounding hills.
Race director Darren Mansfield said: “The Alton 10 is known for its beautiful yet challenging course, and we look forward to welcoming runners from across the region for another fantastic day of racing.
“Whether you are a seasoned club runner or a local runner, this event is open to all who want to challenge themselves on a celebrated course.”
The Alton 10 is a major fundraising event that directly benefits the local community, with the 2025 race raising more than £4,000 for local charities and community groups.
Funds were distributed to several organisations, including Alton Lions Club, local Scouts and Boys’ Brigade groups, and Cardiac Health.
Alton Lions Club, as well as co-organising the event, supplies marshals and volunteers on the day, ensuring the safe and smooth running of the race.
The Lions use their share of the funds to provide grants and support for local individuals in need, charities, schools and community organisations.
Their efforts focus on general charitable purposes, disability support, poverty relief and promoting the social welfare of the community.
Lions trustee Gary Harvey said: “The Alton 10 is one of the key events in the calendar for the Alton Lions Club.
“We are incredibly grateful for the dedication of every runner and our volunteers, whose efforts made the 2025 event a remarkable success, raising funds that directly benefit our Alton community.
“By registering for the 2026 race, runners are not just challenging themselves - they are making a tangible difference to the lives of people right here in Alton.”
The circular course starts and finishes at Eggar’s School in Holybourne, and runners must be at least 17 years old on race day.
All finishers will receive a commemorative medal. There will be trophies for the first, second and third placed male and female finishers, and for the winners in a wide range of veteran categories.
