Petersfield resident Dan Shaw has been selected to play for Great Britain’s under-19 American football team against France in Coventry at 7pm tonight (Friday).

Shaw, who is currently studying history at Durham University, was a student at Churcher’s College and has spent the summer working at the Plump Duck.

After spending ten years playing junior rugby for Petersfield Rugby Club, 6ft 6in tall Shaw was headhunted in his first week at university to play American football instead.

Shaw now plays American football for Durham University as an offensive lineman.

His main role is to protect the quarterback.

Shaw has been through four rounds of trial selections for the Great Britain under-19 team before being selected for the matchday team to play France in Coventry.
