ALTON Masters 29, Reading Rhinos 7. Alton RFC veterans found a new home at The Reservation ground in Bordon last Saturday and enjoyed their biggest victory ever, with Reading Rhinos being the victims.

Not only was it the first meeting of the teams, but it was the first time in Alton’s history they had fielded two Masters teams on the same day, thanks to a record 32-man squad.

The first-half XV, led by former club captain Paul Moran, won their half 17-0, following two tries from Ben Chant and one from Matt France, plus a conversion by Steve Johns.

The second-half XV ran out 12-5 winners, with tries from Ed White and Winston Carter, and a conversion by skipper Martyn Jagger.

‘Miss of the Day’ came in the 20th minute when Steve Johns dashed 40 metres, only to drop the ball with the try-line beckoning.
