Farnham Rugby Club’s under-18 Academy side produced a tenacious performance to beat defending champions Guildford 16-10 in the National Cup.

Farnham failed to convert a couple of early opportunities with the ball in hand, and had to rely on a couple of penalties to sneak ahead. A defensive lapse in the middle of the pitch then saw the Guildford number ten stroll in under the posts. Farnham rallied to take an opportunity out wide.

A further score followed and Farnham led 16-7 at half-time.

Farnham played against the wind in the second half but hung on thanks to a committed defensive display. Farnham got away with the odd moment of madness under their posts, but some scrambling defensive work and Guildford’s own limitations through the midfield meant Farnham held on for the win to seal their place in the next round.
