BATTERSEA IRONSIDES 40, PETERSFIELD 10

PETERSFIELD’S recent struggles in London 3SW continued with defeat at fourth-placed Battersea Ironside on Saturday.

It’s always a tough venue and ’Field, able to select a stronger side than of late, went down fighting.

Tries from Ryan Morse and Seb Tuff, both unconverted, kept them in touch for a while, but Battersea eventually pulled away to win comfortably.

Petersfield 3rd XV, meanwhile, gained a hard-fought 17-12 win against a good Trojans side to strengthen their position at the top of the Snows Merit Table 4 league.

Skipper Dave Sloan kicked an early penalty, but Trojans used their experienced, well-drilled and aggressive pack to good effect and scored tries either side of half-time, one converted, to lead 12-3.

But the home side kept their composure and finally Alex Groves brushed off several tackles to score under the posts, Sloan adding the conversion.

With ten minutes to go, a superb kick downfield by Jamie Potter put the home side in a great field position and the ball eventually reached Lee Jones, who cut through the defence to score.

Sloan clinched victory with the conversion.
