Rushmoor Knights American football team beat Cambridgeshire Cats 30-6 in British American Football Premiership South.
In the final home game of the season the Knights took the opening drive and went straight on the front foot with runs from Harvey Macey, a completed pass to Matthew Rickard and a scramble from quarterback Emmanuel Crispin, before Macey ran in for the final eight yards. Harry Cousins added the conversion to put Rushmoor 7-0 up.
Cats receiver Kevin Hucks then ran 80 yards from the kick-off down the left sideline to put a dent in the Knights’ impressive start and make it 7-6. William Browning’s conversion was blocked.
At the start of the second quarter Macey ran 82 yards, avoiding one tackle for the touchdown. Cousins converted to make it 14-6.
Crispin then got the Knights out of trouble, scrambling for the first down when on his own two-yard line.
Macey ran for 30 yards before a bizarre first down led to three points. Macey had the ball knocked out of his hands on another weaving run, however the ball fell into the arms of Travis Carpenter for a first down at the two-minute warning. The Knights decided to go for the 49-yard field goal. Cousins' kick narrowly missed the left upright, but a false start pushed it back to 54 yards and Cousins nailed his kick.
Rushmoor’s defence held firm to lead 17-6 at half-time.
The Knights scored the opening touchdown of the second half when Macey ran up the middle from 20 yards to make it 23-6.
Halfway through the fourth quarter Cousins missed a 35-yard field goal, however at the two-minute warning Crispin found Carpenter wide open in the back field for a 35-yard completion and touchdown to seal an impressive 30-6 victory.
