Taylor takes the honours at Farnham Road Club’s time trial

A SUNNY but chilly morning greeted riders in Farnham Road Club’s ten-mile time trial on Saturday.
Perhaps equally important was a cold easterly breeze which slowed riders on the return leg of the course.
Timekeepers Jim Brown and David Clifford dealt with organisational matters before setting the riders off, with the help of Michael Rice acting as pusher-off before riding the event himself.
This week there were only three visiting riders: Farnham Road Club provided all the other solo competitors and the only tandem pairing.
Fastest on the morning was Roger Taylor, who covered the ten miles in 22min 53sec, followed by Stuart Morgan in 24.13, with St Piran’s Oscar Pratt claiming third in 24.34.
Another regular visitor, Michael Harrison of North Hampshire Road Club, was fourth in 24.59. The tandem of Robert Allen and Paul Charman finished in 25.45. The next fastest time was recorded by Richard Williams (26.12), followed by Charlotteville CC’s Dave Butler in 26.19. Roger Chapman recorded 27.49, Jim Parker 28.07, Michael Rice 29.58 and Nigel Bicknell – riding a first competitive event since major surgery – covered the course at a steady pace to record 38.09.
The series continues on Saturday, May 7 and May 14, before moving to Tuesday evenings as of Tuesday, May 17.
