THE Aldershot Table Tennis League’s Handicap Cup competition produced another thrilling encounter, with Tennis G pipping Frimley C by three points on countback after the match had ended 6-6.

Vasco Correira won all his singles for Frimley, while Peter Bone and Merhdad Abutalebi took two apiece for Tennis.

Tennis H had a more comfortable win over their D team, 9-3. Roger Whichelow was unbeaten in both singles and doubles for the H players and Michael Wolfe lost only one singles. Pu Zhang won two for the D team

Ash A powered into the Div I Cup semi-finals with a 7-2 victory over Frimley A. Dave Gilham and Dave Halfpenny were both undefeated for the winners.

In the other remaining quarter-final, Tennis A and Tennis B played out a very tight match. The A team prevailed 5-4, thanks to a full house from Eliot Tilley. Michael Kwan and Paul Shakespeare both bagged braces for the Bs.

Frimley B proved far too strong for Cody A in their Div II Cup quarter-final. Clive Welsman was unbeaten for Frimley and John Eade won twice.

Ash C, meanwhile, reached the final at the expense of Cody B. Frank Winnard was unbeaten in the 5-2 victory.

Ash E surprised Crawley Ridge B with a 5-4 victory in the Div III Cup quarter-final. Dave Skellern was unbeaten for Crawley Ridge, but two wins apiece for Terry French and Les Knight and a singles success for Dave Brown tipped the balance for Ash.

Tennis G clinched a place in the final with a comfortable 6-3 defeat of Fleet B. Peter Bone notched up a maximum, backed up by Martin Evans’ double, while Rob Brook won twice for Fleet.

Crawley Ridge C reached the Div IV Cup final with a 7-2 victory over Tennis H. Richard Hornby won all three for Crawley Ridge. Team-mates Mark Stephenson and Yuriy Schulzhenko won two apiece, both losing to Michael Wolfe of Tennis.
