WHITEHILL ARCHERS hosted their two-day ‘March madness’ record status competition after a two-year break because of the pandemic.

A total of 77 archers from across the country took part in the first event of its kind this year.

Day one (March 19) was a world record status event with various distances depending on the age and gender category of the archers.

Tamas Gasper claimed the World Archery double 50-metre world record in the Paralympian category.

Young star Oliver Wicks, 15, claimed the World Archery double 50-metre world record as a cadet and junior; the World Archery double 50-metre European senior record and the World Archery single 50-metre European record as a cadet and junior.

He claimed the European Double WA50 Senior record after a very close contest (1251 v 1249) against James Annall.

On day two, James Annall set a new UK record for the St George round.

As usual, food was provided on both days and four judges were in attendance and on both days we concluded with a raffle and prize giving which was glass-engraved trophies for winners from each category (21 over two days) plus silver and bronze medals for the runners-up.

The weather was fantastic and the atmosphere excellent as this was the first time many of us have been able to get together on an archery field.
