IT’S rare to start with a team that suffered a whitewash but when Cody D lost to Ash J by that score in the Fourth Division, it could so easily have been different.
Thirteen games went to deuce, including a 25-23, and all were won by Ash. Bob Murrell, Sheila Pretty and Dave Brown were the winning trio but at no time did the efforts of Nigel Willshire, Vic King and John Beagley waver, and any league structure needs teams such as Cody D.
Crawley Ridge D cemented their second spot with a 9-1 success over Frimley F. Russell Gibbs and Corin Moore notched up trios with Derek Lee winning a couple.
Cody C beat Fleet C 7-3 to move into third place. Peter Sunderland was unbeaten for Cody with team-mate Dave Hewitt winning twice, as did Andrew Hook for Fleet.
Tennis K beat their J team with both Ben Kirby and Tom Ratcliffe securing maximums.

It was Bentley B’s turn to go to the top of the Second Division when they whitewashed Tennis D. Robin Street, Paul Farrant and Eric North garnered the points.
Crawley Ridge A eased past Ash E 6-4 in a match in which all players won. The star of the evening was Crawley Ridge’s Vincent Quiambao, who was unbeaten. Duncan Sibbick won a couple for Ash.
Frimley B shared the points with Tennis E. Andy Barnard won all three for Tennis while David MacKinnon and Ramesh Vasudevamurthy both bagged doubles.
Frimley C and D also split the points with no player undefeated. There were pairs for Hilary Greig and Anthony Connelly for the C team and Ted Cornell and Keiran Daniel for the D team.
Central will be pleased with their 9-1 victory over Ash A in the First Division. Phil Snelson and Paul Baker secured full houses while Peter Millard supported with a pair.
Bentley A beat Tennis B by the same score. Micky Lang and Trevor Spraggs recorded maximums while Crispian Knight won a couple.
Frimley A beat Tennis C 7-3 with Clive Welsman winning all three for Frimley. Nigel Oh and Tim Ngyou both won a couple in support, both losing to Tennis’ Ben Fereday.
Ash B beat their C team 7-3 with Dave Halfpenny chalking up a full house. Team-mates Nigel Care and Dave Gilham both won twice, as did Ade Mitchell for the C team.
