Farnham golfer Lottie Woad has taken home a silver medal from the European Team Championship.

Woad was part of the England Women’s team who were chasing a third straight title but were defeated 4½-2½ by Spain on Saturday afternoon at the Tawast Golf & Country Club in Finland.

Jess Baker and Charlotte Heath claimed a 3&2 victory in the first match of the day but Caley McGinty and Woad slipped to a 2&1 defeat to leave the match tied heading into the afternoon singles.

England edged back in front as the in-form Woad won 5&4 against Julia Lopez Ramirez, but Spain’s Carolina Lopez-Chacarra Coto won 3&2 against Heath. Patience Rhodes lost 6&5 against Bernat Escuder before McGinty was beaten 4&3 by Fernandez Garcia-Poggio. Rosie Belsham halved her contest with Carla Tejedo Mulet.
