A dispersal order has been authorised to help officers respond to reports of anti-social behaviour and public order incidents in Fleet town centre this weekend.

Police expect a busy few days as visitors head into the town centre for Christmas events.

Following recent reports of anti-social behaviour, public order incidents and assaults linked to the night-time economy, officers have authorised a dispersal order under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

The order covers the area shown on the map from 7pm on Friday, December 12 until 5am on Sunday, December 14.

It allows officers to deal more effectively with issues in the designated area and means they can order a person to leave with no return during that period. Anyone who refuses is committing a criminal offence and risks arrest.

Officers will be patrolling the town centre and say they will not hesitate to use the order if required.

Children between the ages of ten and sixteen who receive dispersal notices will be taken home to parents or guardians, and officers will carry out follow-up work.

Hart inspector Lisa Eastlake said: “We are anticipating a busy weekend as people come to enjoy everything the town of Fleet has to offer this weekend.

“We want people to enjoy the town centre, but I want to be clear that anti-social behaviour and public order incidents will not be tolerated – and offenders will be dealt with robustly.

“Officers will be patrolling the area this weekend, so if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak with a uniformed officer.”

Police are asking anyone who has witnessed or been affected by anti-social behaviour to continue reporting incidents so patrols can be targeted and further proactive action taken.

Information can be submitted via 101 or online through the force’s reporting tool. If a crime is under way, call 999.
