THE A331 is currently closed in both directions between the A31 Hogs Back and the A323 Aldershot roundabout following an electricity pylon fire in the early hours of Friday morning.

Surrey Police’s traffic unit warned shortly after 8am that the road would remain closed "for some time" while it is made safe following the fire, which the Herald understands took hold at around 2am.

A police spokesman added: "The fire was out out by 5.30am but fire crews remain at the scene and are working with the electricity board to ensure that the area is made safe. The road is likely to be closed for some time. Highways are also in attendance.

"Motorists are asked to find an alternative route whilst this incident remain ongoing and to check local travel websites for further updates."

The closure of the Blackwater Valley route, linking the A31 to the M3, has led to significant disruption in both directions on the Hogs Back, as well as on local roads - including in Farnham town centre.
