The Hinton Arms - on the A272 Petersfield Road just inside Cheriton - is closing on Sunday.

The news was announced in a statement on the pub’s website. It said: “We are so sorry to have to share some sad news for our customers and friends. Unfortunately The Hinton Arms will be closing its doors on February 15.

“This has been so much more than a place to eat and drink. It has been a home, a meeting place and the backdrop of countless memories, laughter and friendships.

“We would like to thank every one of you for supporting this pub throughout its 23-year journey, and for all the good times we’ve shared. It would be wonderful to see your friendly faces again before we close.

“Finally, to our incredible staff, past and present - thank you. Your hard work and loyalty are what kept this place alive. We truly couldn’t have done it without you, and those who are no longer with us would be proud of what you helped build. From all of us at the Hinton, thank you.”
